What happens when a few men listen to the movement of God?

In 1978, a group of youth pastors who had attended seminary together had what was at the time a new idea in the world of youth ministry. Within their hearts there was a desire for their youth programs, located all over the southeast, to come together for a retreat. In December of that year, the first BreakThru Student Retreat was held in Alabama for approximately 60 students.
It was not enough for these men to simply bring students to the event. Their desire was to collaborate in the planning process so as to specifically meet the spiritual needs of each program. From these beginnings, BTM even today carries an emphasis of relational, collaborative ministry.
Now, because of the resource of Timber Creek Camp, BreakThru is able to minister from this emphasis with a broad spectrum of ministers from children’s ministries to men’s ministries. We interact and plan with them all.
We owe a great deal to those men who first decided to take a step of faith and begin reaching students over Christmas break in 1978. We believe we have honored their legacy by continuing to follow God’s direction while remaining true to the heart beat of this ministry that began in 1978.
